Altar Serving

Ministry of Servers - This Ministry is a commitment in the service to the Mass.  This commitment is not only to the altar but should be looked at as an honor and a genuine Holy Service.  Servers are not only assistants to the priests but are servers to Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest.

This Ministry is open to all children of families in "Good Standing" of St. Vincent DePaul church that are attending the 6th through the 8th grades in St. Vincent's school, public schools or are home schooled.  Teenagers attending high school can participate in this Ministry through the Teen Mass at 6:00 pm on Sundays.

The key to this Ministry is commitment and responsibility.  (This commitment and responsibility must not only fall on the server but also on the parents.  Parents play an important role as they are the ones that bring the children to the church.) Servers must be flexible.  They must be present at the Masses they are scheduled to serve which can be 7:15 am, 9:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:45 pm, or 5:00 pm.  There are Saturday morning and Holy day responsibilities as well.  If a server can not attend a scheduled Mass then it is mandatory that they get a replacement. In addition the server must be on time, neatly groomed, wearing shoes (not athletic or flip-flops), and be reverent and attentive to the duties of a server.

Altar Servers:  Serving at Mass is open to all boys and girls attending St. Vincent’s school, all public school and home school students in grades 6th through 8th.  Altar servers are scheduled for Saturday morning 8:00 am and all weekend Masses.  In addition, altar servers may be asked to serve at funerals and weddings.  They may also volunteer to be servers for summer 8:00 am Masses during the week.  Training is required prior to serving.  Any questions, please call Mary Schafer or email schafjandm@comcast.net.

Lead Servers:  Lead Servers are young men in grade 8 or high school who are responsible for guiding the altar servers throughout the Mass.  Training is required prior to serving.  Any questions, please call
Mary Schafer or email schafjandm@comcast.net.
