The purpose of the St. Vincent Respect Life Committee is to foster among the parishioners a better understanding of the life issues affecting and impacting society today and to promote creative ways to address these issues through prayer and action.
Over the past several years, the newly revamped Respect Life Committee has created many opportunities for the St. Vincent community to participate in various pro-life activities, as well as opportunities to better develop their understanding and knowledge of the Church's teachings in regards to the life issues, from life in the womb until natural death. As well as hosting educational booths at the back of church several times a year, the committee has also hosted speakers, such as Fred Everett of the Office of Family from the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese and Scott Klusendorff of Life Training Institute, to speak on abortion, living wills, caring for the dying, organ donation, the death penalty, etc. Also offered twice a year is a two-part seminar, "Making Abortion Unthinkable: The Art of Pro-Life Persuasion" which aims to train one on how to properly defend the pro-life position on abortion. Some other opportunities parishioners are encouraged to participate in include karaoke and ice cream socials hosted twice a year at local nursing homes, prayer vigils for 40 Days for Life, the Mother's Day carnation sale to benefit Allen County Right to Life, etc. Finally, the Respect Life Committee reaches out to the grade school students with projects such as the Annual Pro-Life T-Shirt contest in which the students compete to create the winning pro-life t-shirt to be sold and worn on a selected school day.
